Nasa & Google both announced the discovery of an eighth planet on December 14 2017 i.e. Kepler 90i in the Kepler-90 system.

Here are the 10 facts about Kepler 90:-

1. Kepler 90 is located about 2,545 light-years i.e 780pc from Earth & is noticable for having a planetary system that has an equal number of observed planets to the Solar System.

2. It is a G-type main sequence star. Kepler uses a transit method which involves detecting dips in brightness in stars. From the perspective of Earth, these dips in brightness can be interpreted as planets whose orbits move in front of their stars.

3. The surface temperature of Kepler 90 is 6080 K and is approximately 120% the mass and radius of the Sun. Having the age of around 2 billion years it is about 4.6 billion years old in Sun's comparision. It is too dim to be seen with naked eyes.

4. Kepler 90 is the second to be dsicovered after solar system. It is the only eight-planet candidate system from Kepler. The inner six planets range in size from that of Earth to smaller Neptune & the outer two planets are the size of gas giants. It was also the only seven-planet candidate system from Kepler before the eighth was discovered in 2017.

5.  From the order of discovery the designation b, c, d, e, f, g, h and i are derived. The first designation i.e. b is given to the first planet orbiting a given star followed by the other lowercase letters of the alphabet. There are planets discovered, so designation upto i are used in Kepler-90 system.

That's all from this blog. Hope you like it. I upload this types of blogs regularly and all of us will reveal the mysteries of universe and space.

Thank you.
